Katrina Flahive

Vinyasa, Hatha, Kundalini, Yin

Katrina is our only yoga teacher who lives next to a cornfield and knows her way around carburetors. Come to think of it, Katrina is probably the only yoga teacher in the whole who lives next to a cornfield and knows her way around carburetors!

She’s also amazing in other ways. Originally planning to be an anatomy professor, Katrina came to yoga after a series of traumatic experiences (including a school shooting), and yoga, particularly Kundalini, became a powerful healing force in her life. The influences on her teaching, which began in 2014, include Brett Larkin, with whom she works as a lead teacher trainer, and Guru Singh, with whom she obtained her 200hr Kundalini certification at Kundalini University. Since then, she’s been striving to turn her trauma into her dharma. All of her teaching is trauma-informed, and never forgets how important it is to create a safe and compassionate environment.

If you become a student of Katrina’s, you’ll notice that she reminds you this is your practice, not hers. And she’ll always be there with a gentle reminder to come back to the breath, as an anchor both on and off the mat. You can take classes with Katrina in person, if you happen to be in Illinois, or you can catch her each week on PIVOT Yoga.
